.

.

.

City of Arvada Water Conservation Grant

Park Overview

The City of Arvada's park areas consist of 374 acres of irrigated turf areas, two high traffic
sports complexes and eight miles of traffic islands, The parks department is responsible for the
operation of 125 irrigation controllers and 1,620 control valves during the irrigation season. In
the summer months there are as many as 54 employees programming these controllers which
makes it difficult to monitor without having a centralized tracking system.

During 1994, the City used the irrigation monitoring program on 2 of its parks and realized a
water savings of 71,139 gallons, The City of Arvada Parks Department is currently in the
process of implementing the software program on a city-wide basis. During the upcoming
winter months information for additional parks will be entered into the database and employees
will be trained on how to utilize the software to establish efficient irrigation schedules,
