.

.

.

.

Final Analysis

Although the training information and computer program developed was not widely adopted for
various reasons, the available data suggests that when watering is tailored to the irrigation
system hardware and environmental conditions at a site, significant water savings are achievable.

One of the interesting findings from this work effort was discovering that tracking water
consumption at irrigation sites by metering is often not done. One of the m~or advantages of
using the manual and software is to be able to compare the amount of water applied before and
after ET principles are incorporated into watering schedules. Without having the baseline data
available for comparison, the benefits Of following the guidelines outlined in the manual cannot
be as easily demonstrated.

The training sessions did provide a valuable opportunity to emphasize the importance and
potential cost savings of operating irrigation systems efficiently. The City of Arvada wishes to
express its thanks to the State of Colorado Office of Water Conservation for their support.

-5-
