Box 1460
Canon City, CO 81215-1460

Dear Steve:

The Sangre de Cristo Resource Conservation and Development Council enthusiastically supports your
request for a grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board to develop a xeriscape demonstration
garden and informational materials.

With the city's increasing demand for water, it is important that the city encourage water conservation
measures. There is a need for a demonstration area where the public can learn how to attractively
landscape with low water use materials. A publication about xeriscape would provide additional
information to help people implement xeriscape in their own lawns and gardens. The xeriscape garden is
an important component of the Canon City Water Conservation Plan and introduces people to a water
conserving landscape method. The city is committed to the project, has the knowledge, and has
dedicated the resources to accomplish it.

The mission of the Sangre de Cristo Resource Conservation and Development Council is to encourage
communities to improve their economic and social well-being through the conservation and development
of natural resources. This project is an important step toward water conservation in the Canon City area.
