M02S-2070.01 Jery Payne <br /> <br />SM02S-001 <br /> <br />Matsunlilli'llATE SPONSORSHIP <br /> <br />Senate Committees <br /> <br />SENATE MEMORIAL 02S-001 <br />MEMORIALIZING CONGRESS TO SUPPORT MEASURES THAT PROVIDE DISASTER ASSISTANCE FOR <br />COLORADO'S AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Snowpack levels and precipitation from rainfall have been far below normal for many states <br />in the Rocky Mountain region, including Colorado; and <br />WHEREAS, Colorado has experienced extreme drought conditions for the last 3 yeafs; and <br />WHEREAS, This year's drought is the WOfSt year of drought for agricultural producers in living memory; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The typical annual wheat harvest is over 100 million bushels and this year's estimated <br />harvest is less than 40 million bushels; and <br />WHEREAS, Livestock producers are struggling for economic survival due to drought-related conditions <br />such as the lack of available drinking water for livestock, limited grazing land and fOfage, and the high price of <br />hay and other feed; and <br />WHEREAS, Agricultural production has experienced several years of economic decline, with low crop <br />prices, weak cattle markets, and increasing production costs; and <br />WHEREAS, The financial impact caused by the drought could be devastating to Colorado's agricultural <br />community, and have a serious negative impact on the state's economy; and <br />WHEREAS, Congfess failed to appropriate adequate disaster assistance to agficultufal producefs in 200 I; <br />now, therefore, <br />Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-third General Assembly of the State of Colorado: <br />That the Senate supports and encourages Colorado's Congressional delegation to support the measures <br />before the United States Senate that provide adequate disaster assistance to Colorado's agricultural producers, <br />including S. 2528, S. 2086, and S. 2183. <br />Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Memorial be sent to the Majority Leader of the United States <br />Senate, the Minority Leader of the United States Senate, the Majority Leader of the United States House of <br />Representatives, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the <br />Colorado Congressional Delegation. <br /> <br />57 <br />
