<br />1 WHEREAS, Colorado is experiencin9, a historic drought that has e <br />2 damaH,ed the economy, harmed Co1ora o's quality of life, and <br />3 signi !Cantly increased the cost of water; and . <br />4 WHEREAS, Colorado is among the fastest-growing states in the <br />5 nation, with more than one million new people since 1990; and <br />6 WHEREAS, The United States Department of the Interior has <br />7 required the state of California to end its over-appropriation of Colorado <br />8 River water and forego use of approximately 800,000 acre-feet of water; <br />9 and <br />10 WHEREAS, The Colorado Department of Natural Resources and <br />11 the Colorado Attorney General have rimary policy and legal <br />12 responsibility to protect Colorado water rig ts; now, therefore, <br />13 Be It Resolved by the House f,.Refcresentatives of the Sixtyjourth <br />14 General Assembly of the State 0 Co orado, the Senate concurring <br />15 herein: . <br />16 That the State of Colorado, .and specifically the Colorado <br />17 Department of Natural Resources and the Colorado Attorney General of <br />18 the State of Colorado, take all steys necessary to identify, claim, and put <br />19 to beneficial use Colorado's fu1 legal entitlement to water from the <br />20 Colorado River. <br />21 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be e <br />22 provided to the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, the Colorado <br />23 Attorney General, the Secreta;h of the ,United States Department of the <br />24 Interior, and each member oft e Colorado Congressional delegation, <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br />1011 <br />
