Apw» COLORADO
CO ColoradoWater=°~ Conservation Board
Department of Natural Resourco
1313 Sherman Street, Room 718
Denver, CO 80203
Memorandum
To: Greg Johnson, Water Sui Planning S tion Chief
From: Ben Wade — ---
Water Supply Planning
Date: November 9, 2018
Subject: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for Town of Firestone
Recommendation:
The Water Supply Planning staff recommends that Greg Johnson, Section Chief,
approve a Water Efficiency Grant to update a Drought Management Plan in the amount
of $30,000 for the Town of Firestone.
Summary of Grant Application
The Town of Firestone is a covered entity in the South Platte basin and is the first entity to
update a previously CWCB approved Drought Management Plan in 3012' The Town is
estimated to grow in population by 7% in 2019 and 4-5% through 2038. Firestone was able to
supply enough water during the 2002-03 drought but their population has significantly
increased. The previous plan helped to maintain adequate supplies during the 201 3-14
drought.
During a future drought and depending on the drought stage the Town would be in,
they estimate overall water use would be reduced by 5% to 60% throught a
combination of short term drought mitigation strategies and long term conservation
measures.
The total cost of the project is $75,018.19. Firestone is committing 60% matching
funds in the form of $30,225.14 of in-kind services and $14,793'05 in cash. CWCB staff
has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the
proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals.
Attached is the internal checklist used to evaluate the application.
Attachment: Evaluation Checklist
