Currently, the county is experiencing D4 or exceptional drought conditions. According
to NRCS SNOTEL data, most sites in southern Colorado are recording record low or near record
Low water year precipitation values.
While the county is the least populous in Colorado, they do have a high seasonal a transient
population which puts a strain on their water supply especially during summer events. By
implementing a Drought Management Plan, the County 8L Town of Silverton estimate they can
see a 10% reduction in water use and possibly up to 50% with more restrictive programs in
place.
The total cost of the project is $28,030' San Juan County and the Town of Silverton
are committing 25% matching funds in the form of $5,440 of in-kind services and
$1,100 in cash. CWCB staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has
determined that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing
grant proposals.
