CLP Reservoir Company, which they use among other sources to supplement their New
Cache direct flow rights.5
There are 3,000 shares of stock in the CLP Reservoir Company.6 The following table
includes some pertinent water rights information associated with this water right.
According to the New Cache Ditch-Wide Report, 2,646.5 shares of the 3,000 shares
have been used by shareholders under the New Cache system, while the remaining
353.5 shares have been used by shareholders under the Lake Canal system.
Table 5 -Cache la Poudre Reservoir Company Information
Priority Adjudication Appropriation Decreed Volume
No. Date Date (acre-feet)
28 December 9, 1904 March 17, 1892 8,379
61 April 22, 1922 December 1, 1902 1,740
136 (refill) September 10, 1953 December 31, 1923 5,948
Historical Service Area
The Greeley No. 2 Canal diverts from the north side of the Cache la Poudre River in the
SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4, Section 11, Township 6 North, Range 68 West of the Sixth Principal
Meridian in Larimer County, Colorado. The ditch system serves irrigated lands in
eastern Larimer County and western Weld County. Many irrigators under the New
Cache System own shares in the Windsor Reservoir and Canal Company (owner of
Windsor Reservoir). In addition to Windsor Reservoir share water, irrigation water is
also delivered to the New Cache System from Windsor Reservoir as part of an
exchange with the Larimer &Weld Canal (known as the Windsor Reservoir Exchange).
The Windsor Reservoir Exchange operates to satisfy the New Cache direct flow rights
through the release of water from Windsor Reservoir in exchange for diversions at the
Larimer&Weld Canal. These releases are attributed to the New Cache direct flow
rights. An additional exchange operates where Fossil Creek Reservoir water is
released to the Cache La Poudre River above the Greeley No. 2 Canal headgate in
exchange for upstream diversion into the North Poudre Irrigation System.
CLP Reservoir rights include both direct flow and storage rights, including both an
absolute and a conditional refill right. The CLP Reservoir rights also include water from
three different seeps and other sources of irrigation return water that drain water into
Timnath Reservoir or its outlet ditch. The headgate for the inlet ditch into Timnath
Reservoir is located on the north bank of the Cache la Poudre River in the NE 1/4 of
Section 18, Township 7 North, Range 68 West, of the Sixth Principal Meridian in
Larimer County. The inlet ditch includes water rights for diversion from the Cache la
Poudre River, and other minor tributary streams crossed by the ditch.
5 Source: SPDSS New Cache memo
6 Source of information from ditch-wide report and SPDSS New Cache Memo
