Vermillion Ranch Limited Partnership/Surface Water Impoundment 13659-RX
Subsoil Conditions
The subsoil classified in the nine test borings performed at the site consists of sand, silt, and
clay alluvium, silty/clayey alluvial terrace deposits, and sedimentary bedrock. A summary of
Mthe subsoils encountered and specific subsoil information is as follows:
Subsoil Depth (Feet)
Test Alluvial Sand, Clayey/Silty Sand
Sedimentary
'
Boring Location Alluvial Fan Boring No. Silt, &Clay Bedrock
Deposits
Dam C,
B-1 — — 0—26.5*
Sta. 0+13
Dam C,
B-2 0- 14.0 — 14.0-36.5*
Sta. 1+00
Dam C, * — —
B-3 0—51.5
Sta. 2+00
1 B-4 Dam C, 0—28.0 28.0—51.5* —
Sta. 3+58
Dam C, —
B-5 0— 12.0 12.0—80.0*
Sta. 4+67
Dam C,
B-6 0-7.0 7.0-25.0* 25.0-31.5*
Sta. 5+51
Spillway, East *
B-A — 0—32.0 32.0—36.5
Side
B-B Spillway, West — 0—36.5* —
Side
Southern
B-C — 0—23.0 23.0—31.0*
Embankment
*Test Boring Completion Depth
Alluvium encountered at the ground surface in Test Borings B-2 thru B-6 consists of loose to
medium dense silty/clayey sand and very soft to very stiff sandy/silty clay. Standard
' Penetration Numbers (N-Values) recorded in the alluvium ranged from 0 to 20 blows per foot
of penetration, with N-Values typically less than 10 blows per foot of penetration. Sieve
analyses conducted on samples obtained from the alluvium indicates minus number 200 sieve
fractions of 52.6 percent to 94.7 percent. Atterberg Limits tests show liquid limits of 21 to
39 percent and plasticity indices of 4 to 17 percent, indicating low to moderate plasticity.
Old alluvial deposits consisting of silty/clayeysand were encountered beneath the sandy clay
p g
' alluvium along the dam centerline in Test Borings B-4, B-5 and B-6, and also occurred at the
ground surface at the proposed spillway and southern embankment locations in Test Borings B-
INBERG-MILLER ENGINEERS 5 February 26, 2009
