' Vermillion Ranch Limited Partnership/Surface Water Impoundment 13659-RX
2. Sampling with a 2-inch O.D. split-barrel (split-spoon) per ASTM D1586,
"Penetration Test and Split-Barrel Sampling of Soils." Eighty (80) such tests
were performed.
3. Sampling with a 2.5-inch I.D., thick-wall, ring-lined, split-barrel, drive sampler
per ASTM D3550. Eleven(11) such samples were obtained.
The soil samples were field classified by a Geotechnical Engineer, sealed in containers to
prevent loss of moisture, and returned to our laboratory. They were then inspected by a
Geotechnical Engineer prior to the preparation of this report, and reclassified visually in
accordance with ASTM D2488.
d for each boring during drilling. After the retrieved samples were
A field log was prepare g g g
checked in the laboratory, a Final Log for each boring was prepared containing the work
method, samples recovered, and the indication of the presence of various soil types. The Final
Logs are bound into Appendix B.
The Final Logs contain both factual and interpretive information. On the Final Logs, horizontal
lines are approximate, and designate the interface between differing soil strata encountered.
The transition between soil layers may be gradual. We emphasize that our recommendations
1 are based only on the Final Logs.
Laboratory Testing Program
' In order to classify the recovered samples and determine their engineering properties, the
following laboratory soil tests were performed:
' TESTS
1. Moisture Content(ASTM D2216) 90
2. Atterberg Limits (ASTM D4318) 15
3. Sieve Analysis -#200 (ASTM D1140) 11
4. Sieve Analysis (#4 to#200) (ASTM D422 and D1140) 4
5. Water Soluble Sulfate(AASHTO T290) 2
The sieve analyses are presented graphically in Appendix C. All other test results are arrayed
on the Final Logs.
Site Conditions
The proposed earthen dam location is situated in the NE'/4 of Section 18, T.11N., R.101W.,
6th P.M., Moffat County, Colorado. Talamantes Creek flows through the center of the subject site
towards the east. The topography of the site slopes down to Talamantes Creek from upland areas
north and south of the creek.
