Project Description
The City supplies potable water to the residents of Cortez, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and Montezuma
County Water District No. 1. Its supply comes from McPhee Reservoir. The existing system has 3,550 meters
that range in age from 25 to 70 years old. The meters are inaccurate and are failing to capture customer usage
information. The City replaced its old meters with smart meters that provide data storage and the ability to
better manage water within the distribution system. The City is also received a $50,000 Water Efficiency Grant
from the CWCB and a $200,000 grant from DOLA for this project. Neptune Technology Group from Centerville,
UT manufactured the meters and Casette Connect Application Software from Provo, UT provided the software
to read the meters and assist the City with billing and receiving payments.

training for both handheld and mobile data collection systems, as well as installing a host software
system and providing all training associated with said software.
