BRIEF NARRATIVE OF OTHER POTENTIAL SOURCES OF FUNDING
In addition to our request for funding from the Colorado Water Conservation Board,we
have explored the following sources:
1. Local drainage districts—Local drainage districts have provided some modest
funds to support the project. They are listed below. We will be relying on
substantial in-kind support from drainage district boards and possibly some
equipment support for manhole excavations and the installation of monitoring
wells associated with some of the research tasks. The following districts
provided dollar pledges:
a. Wiley of Big Bend Drainage District- $300
b. Granada Drainage District- $250
c. Kronman Drainage District-$250
d. Lubbers Drainage District - $300
2. Cities and towns—The City of Lamar wrote a letter of support for the project.
It is likely that we will be able to use some city equipment. This will have to
be explored once the study is underway.
3. Federal agencies—a letter of support was written by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service. NRCS cannot endorse research studies, but members
of the Las Animas and Lamar field office staff have indicated that they will
help out in any manner permissible by their agency mission. We are
anticipating some equipment assistance from the Bureau of Reclamation, but
we have not spoken to them about the study. We only understand that BOR
has been supportive of past studies conducted by Colorado State University.
We are hoping that one of the federal agencies can help us with equipment
needs. This will be explored.
4. County government—we have had excellent exchanges with county
governments, and one County Assessor's Office provided a letter of support to
the study. We will explore this avenue of additional support, once the study is
underway.
5. Colorado State University—CSU salary indirect cost. CSU is cost-sharing
salary and the associated indirect cost. The value of this indirect cost sharing
is $29,457.
6. Colorado State University—An additional grant to Dr. Terence Podmore and
Dr. Ramchand Oad,received from the Agricultural Experiment Station, will
be used to fund a graduate student in civil engineering. This student will be
assigned to activities associated with water measurement at the beta drainage
system. Discussion of these activities are described in the scope of work (see
Full Project Description and Scope of Work).
