GRANADA DRAINAGE DISTRICT
PO BOX 1298,LAMAR, CO 81052
July 21, 2004
John Wilkins—Wells
Sociology Water Lab
Department of Sociology
Clark building, B258
Colorado State University
Fort Collins, CO 80523
Dear John
Following your meeting and presentation on July 8th at the Best Western in Lamar,
Colorado, regarding your proposal to do a study of the drainage systems in the Lower
Arkansas Valley, our district has agreed to endorse your effort.
Our nearly 100-year old surface and subsurface drainage systems in the Lower Arkansas
Valley continues to be important to us. Flooding has periodically occurred in relation to
our drainage systems. We believe that your study will provide important guidelines
toward pursuing a re-conceptualization of how we manage agricultural drainage water in
the area. It should also help us plan for some long-term rehabilitation of our drainage
systems.
If the Colorado Water Conservation Board funds you, our district is prepared to pledge
$250 to the study, in addition to assisting your study team as our time permits.
We expect to be kept informed of the progress of the study and anticipate that you will be
calling on us for information concerning our district and its problems.
We look forward to your study and the possible benefits it will have for growers in the
Lower Arkansas Valley.
Sincerely,
GRANADA DRAINAG DIST T
William J rasmick,
Secretary
2R
