Within the reservoir siting study area, there
are two major and several smaller irrigation systems:
'
Major Systems
• North Sterling Irrigation District—consisting of the North Sterling Inlet and
Outlet Canals, North Sterling Reservoir, and a number of laterals serving
' irrigators in Logan and western Sedgwick Counties. The lower end of the
North Sterling Outlet Canal is within the study area.
' • Julesburg Irrigation District—which includes the Harmony(Julesburg Reservoir
Inlet) Ditch, the Highline Canal (Julesburg Reservoir Outlet), the Settler's
' Ditch, and the Peterson Ditch. The Julesburg system serves irrigators on the
north side of the South Platte River from the Harmony Ditch diversion to the
state line.
' Smaller Systems
• The South Reservation Ditch, serving lands on the south side of the river from a
diversion located midway between Sedgwick and Ovid
• The now-abandoned Carlson Ditch, which formerly served lands on the south
side of the river from a diversion near Ovid. The Carlson Ditch water right is
still taken through alternate points of diversion
• Liddle Ditch, serving lands on the north side of the river from a diversion near
' Ovid
• The abandoned Cox Ditch
GEI Consultants, Inc. 2-1 01002 Dec 2001 Lower South Platte River Study
