River Protection Workgroup <br /> Process Questions <br /> (draft 10/29/07) <br /> What Happens Before the Community Meetings? <br /> 1) RPW determines optimum conditions under which the Community Meetings/ <br /> Sweep Process will occur so as to prompt community collaboration, conversation <br /> and problem solving to the highest degrees possible. RPW gains concensus on: <br /> a) expected outcomes of Community Meetings/Sweep Process; <br /> b) timelines; <br /> c) decision making about next steps and recommendations; <br /> d) agenda, format and `flow' of meetings including ground rules; & <br /> e) methods of facilitation, and tools and activities to use in the <br /> meetings. <br /> 2) RPW is clear on how decision making regarding next steps and recommendations <br /> will occur. <br /> 3) Determine what attendees need to know ahead of time and at the meeting(s) (e.g. <br /> Web site, fact sheets, power point data, handouts). <br /> 4) Decide which rivers and/or streams will be the focus of initial Community <br /> Meetings/Sweep Process and in which order. <br /> 5) Develop a plan for publicizing the meetings. <br /> 6) Determine if additional funds are needed to carry out desired Community <br /> Meetings/Sweep Process. <br /> What Happens At the Community Meetings? <br /> 1) Implementation of plan developed by RPW (above). <br /> 2) Stakeholders and broader publics are educated on River Sweep data and engage in <br /> issues concerning a need for additional river or stream protections and the nature <br /> of these protections . <br /> 3) Meetings are fair, transparent, well-run, and productive. <br /> 4) Next steps, "take aways"and outcomes are made clear including information that <br /> will be integrated in the USFS/BLM Plan Revision. <br /> 5) Key partners may be identified in helping implement action steps. <br /> What Happens After the Community Meetings? <br /> 1) Decisions are made about actions to take, if any, in meeting the RPW objectives: <br /> * Identify and protect exceptional values of selected steams; and <br /> * Develop long-term reliable state, federal or other measures to protect <br /> identified values (USFS and otherwise)while allowing water development <br /> to continue <br /> 2) Future roles and projects of the RPW are determined. <br />
