MINERAL AND a a'GY RESOURCE ACTIVITIES 1
No mineral claims, patents or leases occur within the river corridor (BLM
microfiche record current through January 19, 1989). The corridor is now
reserved from mineral entry by terms of the Wilderness Act.
WATER RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
There are two absolute decrees for water diversion and twelve decrees for water
storage in the natural lakes within the drainage. The diversion decrees are
for the ditches now owned by the Colorado Department of Natural Resources,
Division of Wildlife. Their decree is for 58 cfs that is diverted through the
Weminuche Pass and Pine River-Weminuche Pass ditches. The water storage
decrees are for 22,498 acre feet.
There have not been any new water rights filings since the 1979 study.
TRANSPORTATION, FACILITIES AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTS
Transportation in the study area is via a system of wilderness trails. The Loss
Pinos river valley and each tributary is served by at least one trail. The
trails are:
-- Pine River Trail #523 20.5 miles Los Pinos River Drainage
-- Emerald Lake Trail #528 8.5 miles Lake Creek (Dead End)
-- Flint Creek #527 10.0 miles Flint Creek through Rock Creek
-- La Osa #525 7.0 miles La Osa Creek through to the
Continental Divide Trail
CDNST #813 13.6 miles That portion of the
Continental Divide National
Scenic Trail through La Vaca
Creek
-- Snowslide #653 3.1 miles Up Snowslide Creek to CDNST
-- Pine-Piedra #524 4.5 miles Portion of the old Piedra
stock driveway
The only structure within the study river corridor is the historic Granite Peak
Guard Station which is still used by the Forest Service for wilderness
administration.
Two water transmission ditches exist at the headwaters of the Pine River but
they are on the headwaters area that was judged to be not suitable for
classification.
