I
I
Yearly Pool Elevations
The reservoir begins releasing water and dropping below the new high water line at varying times I
during the growing season, depending on water user's needs. In general it takes approximately
one month for the reservoir surface water elevation to drop from full pool to below the restricted
I
water line. Pool elevations for 2011, 2012, and 2014 are found in Table 2. In 2013, the reservoir
was not filled due to maintenance that was being done on the dam.
Table 2. Two main types of wetland vegetation
were present around the perimeter of the reservoir: carex-dominated emergent wetland and I
willow-dominated shrub wetland. Areas of fen (defined as ground water fed wetland containing
saturated histosol soils) are present around the reservoir's perimeter. The same types of dominant
vegetation are present in the fen. Fen boundaries were delineated in 2009 by WestWater
biologists.
At the lowest elevations below the new high water mark, wetland was dominated by carex species
Iand is classified as an emergent wetland. This wetland type was present around the perimeter
except at the dam, which is fortified with riprap. Common plant species observed were
Northwest Territory sedge (Carex utriculata), water sedge (Carex aquatilus), and common
Ispikerush (Eleocharis palustris).
The willow-dominated wetland is located immediately adjacent to the emergent wetland on the
west and south sides of the reservoir. The willow-dominated wetland consisted of a thick willow I
canopy with scattered grass and carex species found in the understory. Common plant species
observed were park willow (Salix monticola), diamondleaf willow (Salix planifolia), Geyer
willow (Salix geyeriana), bluejoint (Calamagrostis canadensis), and Northwest Territory sedge I
(Carex utriculata).
WestWater Engineering Page 3 of 14 February 2015 I
