PROPOSED CAPITOL PROJECTS 1998 — 2001 <br />Upper Colorado River and San Juan River Recovery Program* <br />• Fish passage facilities to restore access for native fish to return to existing habitats ($17.1 <br />million) <br />• Diversion screens to prevent fish from being diverted from rivers into canal systems and <br />prevent non - native fish from entering rivers ($15 million) <br />• Yampa River flow management measures such as enlarging a key reservoir and related <br />diversion structures to enhance flows while protecting water supplies ($31.3 million) <br />• Mainstem Colorado River flow management measures such modifying canals and other <br />diversion structures to enhance flows while protecting water supplies ($5.4 million) <br />• Habitat restoration projects that involve acquiring land or easements from willing sellers for <br />restoration and protection of flooded bottomlands and ponds adjacent to the rivers ($21.4 <br />million) <br />• Construction of hatcheries to grow native fish ($9.8 million) <br />( *These project costs are divided among program participants. Colorado will not be responsible for <br />not more than $9 million of the total capital construction cost. Negotiations are ongoing to determine <br />which of the specific projects Colorado will build or participate in.) <br />Platte River Cooperative Agreement <br />• Tamarack Managed Groundwater Recharge Project ($1.2 million for well construction) <br />• Habitat restoration measures that involve acquiring and restoring land in Nebraska on a willing <br />seller basis (Colorado's share will be $2.5 million to acquire 2000 acres at an estimated <br />acquisition/restoration cost of between $1000 and $1500 /acre.) <br />Preble's Meadow Jumping Mouse Habitat Conservation Plan <br />Habitat protection and restoration measures that involve partnering with local governments and <br />others to acquire and restore land along Colorado's Front Range on a willing seller basis ($1.5 <br />million). <br />Capital Project Approval Process <br />All capital projects will be approved annual via a resolution passed by the General Assembly like <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board Construction Fund projects. <br />
