4 4
COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOAR')
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
January 30, 1980
TERRACE R.ES :RVOIR PROJECT
I NTRODUCTI ON
The Terrace Reservoir Dam is located on the Alamosa River
approximately 17 miles southwest of Monte Vista, in Conejos County,
Colorado. It is owned and operated by the Terrace Irrigation Company
which is supplying water to the present share holders, thus contri-
buting a great deal to the economy of the area.
PROBLEM
The Dams -and Reservoir Branch of the State ^ngineer's Office
has cited the Terrace Irrigation Company for deficiencies in the
outlet works at the dam. The citation, which was given in September,
1977 called for no storage due to the unsafe condition of the outlet
works, until the necessary repairs could be satisfactorily completed.
In June, 1978, the State Engineer's Office lifted the citation for no
storage, after a certification by Davis Engineering was issued. The
certification verified that the gate valve repairs required were
completed in accor7ance with approved plans and specifications.
Since then, problems requiring additional work at the outlet
facilities necessitated the expense of extra moneys, which are now
requested from the CWCB.
CURRENT STATUS
In November, 1979, the Terrace Irrigation Company submitted an
application to the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) for
assistance in correcting deficiencies in the Terrace Reservoir Dam.
