COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD 823 State Centennial Building 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 March, 1983 Stagecoach Reservoir Project (Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District) Introduction The Stagecoach Reservoir site is located on the Yampa River about 3 miles east of the towns of Phippsburg and Oak Creek. The proposed project would create a reservoir of about 33,700 acre-feet, of which 3,500 acre-feet would be inactive storage. . Study Status The District submitted a project application in September, 1982. CWCB staff met with District representatives, visited the project site, and discussed the project with them. The District decided to fund the required feasibility study with its own money. Colorado-Ute Electric Association, Inc . (Colorado-Ute) , performed the study. Proposed Project • The Stagecoach Reservoir would be created by the construction of a dam with a maximum height of 145 feet above streambed and a crest length of nearly 900 feet. . The reservoir would have a water surface area of approximately 780 acres at an elevation of 7,200 feet. The outlet works would be a gated, 66-inch diameter steel pipe tapering to 30-inches, thus allowing for the possible addition of a hydropower component to the project at a later date . The total cost of the project is presently estimated at $12,000,000. Additional analysis of dam designs, which will be necessary, could affect this estimate. The yield of the project is estimated at 30,000 acre-feet per year. However, it appears that there is presently a demand for only about 15,000 acre-feet per year . Colorado-Ute, in a letter agreement with the District to which the Board is not a party and which was entered into prior to the Board acting on the project, has indicated that it is willing to purchase 10,000, acre-feet per year at $35 per acre-foot .
