San Luis Valley Groundwater Study. <br /> 6 Clear Creek Basin Study. <br /> Agenda Item 8 - Policies and Strategies for Water Project <br /> Development <br /> Item postponed until June 1985 Board meeting. <br /> Additional Item - Colorado River Floodway Protection Act <br /> (Appendix B) <br /> Mr . McDonald discussed the background history of this item <br /> and indicated that the Board had previously gone on record in <br /> support of this legislation which has now been introduced as <br /> H.R. 1286 . He stated further that hearings on H.R. 1286 are <br /> scheduled on Thursday, May 9, 1985, before the Water and Power <br /> Subcommittee, House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. <br /> Overall support for H.R. 1286 is considered soft in Arizona <br /> and California . However, the Colorado River Board of <br /> California has indicated it will take the lead in supporting <br /> this legislation. Mr . Jerry Zimmerman, Executive director of <br /> the Colorado River Commission, will attend the hearing and lend <br /> support to the Bill . <br /> Mr . McDonald called attention to two technical changes in • <br /> sections 5 and 8 of the proposed bill . He recommended that the <br /> Board adopt the proposed resolution attached to Appendix B. <br /> Mr . Getches moved, seconded by Mr . smith, that the board <br /> adopt the proposed resolution. Motion approved unanimously. <br /> Agenda Item 9 Endangered Species Issues <br /> a. Whooping Crain <br /> No written material was prepared for this agenda item. Mr . <br /> McDonald reported that following the March Board meeting, <br /> another meeting involving Nevraska, Colorado, Wyoming, U.S. <br /> Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and <br /> several environmental and water user groups was held . The <br /> meeting resulted in the establishment of formalized committees <br /> on the Platte River similar to the one on the Colorado River . <br /> Colorado will be represented by David Getches at the <br /> Coordinating Committee level with Bill McDonald on the Steering <br /> Committee. A "Statement of Purpose" for these committees was <br /> also developed at the meeting. <br /> The "Statement of Purpose" was divided into two phases as <br /> requested by Colorado. The first phase is aimed mainly at <br /> removing the jeopardy opinion on the Narrows Unit. The text • <br /> for this purpose is almost verbatim to that for the Colorado <br /> -4- <br />
