15
•
CRSP by Act-of April 11, 1956. The project was turned over to the Hammond
Conservancy District for operation and maintenance effective January 1, 1974.
The project provides an irrigation supply for 3,933 acres.
Animas - La Plata
The definite plans for the Animas-La Plata Project include the development of
34,100 acre-feet of water to be consumptively used within New Mexico, including
7,600 acre-feet for muncipal water service to the Shiprock-Nenahnezad-Upper
Fruitland, New Mexico area. In the planning of the Gallup-Navajo Indian Water
• Supply Project, New Mexico-Arizona-Utah, the Southwest Region has included water
service to this same area as part of the planned diversion from Navajo Reservoir
for use within New Mexico. This duplication in planning water service is
expected to be resolved by the Navajo communities should they agree to service
from either Animas-La Plata Project or Gallup-Navajo Indian Water Supply •
Project. The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission has indicated that if com-
munities in the Shiprock area are not served by the Animas-La Plata Project,
other municipal and industrial (MCI) uses in New Mexico will be developed to
utilize the full 34, 100 acre-foot depletion of water identified for the New
Mexico portion of the Animas-La Plata Project. Thus, in any case the Animas-La
Plata Project will consumptively use 34, 100 acre-feet.
San Juan Chama Project
The San Juan Chama Project was authorized by Public law 87-483. Transmountain
diversions began in 1971 and have averaged about 110,000 acre-feet for the
period 1975 to 1980. Future authorized diversions are also expected to average
•
