In the House, H.R. 3282 , introduced by <br /> Representative James Howard, Chairman of the Committee on Public <br /> Works and Transportation, has been heard before that committee' s <br /> Subcommittee on Water Resources. The bill, which is regarded as <br /> a strong , pro-environment measure, is expectd to receive further <br /> hearings in September. <br /> In the Senate, the Committee on Environment and Public Works <br /> has reported out Chairman John Chafee ' s reauthorization bill, S. <br /> 431 . This bill may reach the floor as early as late September <br /> or early October . <br /> In both, the House and the Senate, amendments to the two <br /> bills are being discussed which are of interest.
