March 29, 2006 <br />City of Durango, <br />According to Colorado River Outfitters Association (CROA) almost 50,000 <br />guests took a commercial raft trip on the Lower Animas River in Durango <br />Colorado in 2005. These guests spent an extra night in Durango, ate extra <br />meals and bought additional products that Durango area businesses sell. <br />According to the study each guest spends an additional $97.78 for rafting. <br />50,000 X 97.78 = $4,889,000 additional dollars into Durango in 2005. <br />Commercial rafting guests have more than doubled since 1988 and are expected <br />to double in the next 10 years. <br />Commercial rafting companies employed over 350 employees in 2005. <br />The key to the future of this viable non polluting industry is Water in the <br />river!
