March 29, 2006
City of Durango,
According to Colorado River Outfitters Association (CROA) almost 50,000
guests took a commercial raft trip on the Lower Animas River in Durango
Colorado in 2005. These guests spent an extra night in Durango, ate extra
meals and bought additional products that Durango area businesses sell.
According to the study each guest spends an additional $97.78 for rafting.
50,000 X 97.78 = $4,889,000 additional dollars into Durango in 2005.
Commercial rafting guests have more than doubled since 1988 and are expected
to double in the next 10 years.
Commercial rafting companies employed over 350 employees in 2005.
The key to the future of this viable non polluting industry is Water in the
river! The City of Durango application for RICD will ensure a bright and
viable future for commercial rafting in Durango!
Casey D Lynch
President
Mountain Waters Rafting Inc.
