If the proposed changes are made to the channel at the weir upstream of the Hot Springs Boulevard
Bridge, the current stage-discharge relation at the new gaging station will be significantly disrupted.
This would necessitate relocating the streamflow-gaging station; however there are no viable locations
for a gage that would not disrupt the continuity of the streamflow record at this long-term site. If
relocation of the gage were a possibility it would be costly and beyond the scope of the budget for
operation and maintenance of the site.
If you need additional information please contact me at 970-245-5257 ext. 14 or via email
pbvongue @usgs.gov or Dave Grey at 970-247-4140 ext 10 or via email dwgrey@usgs.gov.
Sincerely
Paul von Guerard
Western Colorado Office Chief
cc: Jim Kircher Director and Michael Lewis Data Chief Colorado Water Science Center
Lakewood, Colorado; Bob Boulger Data Chief Colorado Water Science Center Western
Colorado Office Grand Junction, Colorado; David Grey Technician in Charge Colorado Water
Science Center Durango Field Office Durango, Colorado
2
