Design Report for Canon City Whitewater Kayak and Recreation Park in the Arkansas River
• structure. The hole would perform for a reasonable recreation experience for
intermediate moves at 700cfs. The hole would form faster and more dynamic hydraulics
for advanced freestyle moves at flows 1800cfs.
The downstream structure,Nessman, is located at an existing `natural' control section
(Froude Number= 1.0 naturally) in the channel. However, the resulting hydraulic jump
is not sufficient to create a reasonable recreational experience. Placing a pre-cast
structure and excavating some boulders would focus the hydraulic jump and create the
desired wave type feature. The wave feature created by this structure would begin to
form at 250cfs and allow for beginner kayak-surfing experiences. However, at 1800cfs
the Nessman wave would provide for advanced kayak experiences.
•
• 0 12 of 16
