Projects Under Construction <br /> • Sterling Irrigation Company—Diversion Structure Rehabilitation <br /> Authorization: SB 99-173 County: Logan—SW of Sterling <br /> Water Source: South Platte River Project Yield: 23,563 acre feet <br /> Terms of Loan: $318,583 @ 3.75%for 30 yrs. Project Type: Diversion Structure Rehab. <br /> This $354,000 project is the rehabilitation of the Sterling Ditch #1 diversion and headgate <br /> structure on the South Platte River southwest of the City of Sterling. The existing 200-ft. by 4-ft. <br /> high concrete diversion wall will be replaced with 100-ft. by 4.5-ft. Obermeyer pneumatic spillway <br /> gate. The new intake structure will consist of 2 - 10-ft. by 5-ft. high radial gates. The Company <br /> has contracted with Jack Odor, P.E. of GASP to prepare the design and construction contract <br /> documents. The construction contract was awarded to Ransom Boone, of Sterling, CO. <br /> Construction commenced in December of 1999 and is approximately 95% complete. The project <br /> is anticipated to be substantially complete April 1,2000. <br /> Leroux Creek Water Users Association—Carl Smith Dam Rehabilitation <br /> Authorization: Emergency Infrastructure Account County: Delta—N of Hotchkiss <br /> Water Source: Leroux Creek Project Yield: 750 ac.ft. <br /> Terms of Loan: $1,450,000 @ 3.75%for 30 years Project Type: Dam Rehabilitation <br /> This $1,600,000 project is the reconstruction of the Carl Smith Dam, located 15 miles north <br /> • of Hotchkiss in Delta County, which failed unexpectedly in May 1998. The Leroux Creek Water <br /> Users Association contracted Smith Geotechnical Engineering Consultants of Forth Collins to <br /> analyze design alternatives and complete construction plans and specifications. The selected <br /> alternative involves the reconstruction of the dam failure area, widening the crest width from 12-ft. <br /> to 16-ft., additional embankment along the downstream face of the dam,rip rap protection along the <br /> upstream face of the dam, reconstruction of the spillway to pass the Probable Maximum Flood, a <br /> toe drain and drainage blanket, and the construction of a new outlet system. Construction <br /> commenced by Zak Dirt of Longmont in September of 1999 and is currently 95% complete. The <br /> remaining punch list items are on-hold over the course of the winter and will be completed,weather <br /> permitting, in April 2000. <br /> Wood Lake Mutual Water&Irrigation Company—Wood Lake Dam Rehabilitation <br /> Authorization: SB 97-008 County: Weld—W of Eaton <br /> Water Source: Cache la Poudre River Project Yield: 3,106 ac.ft. <br /> Terms of Loan: $458,000 @ 3.75%for 30 years Project Type: Dam Rehabilitation <br /> This $550,000 project is the replacement of the Wood Lake Dam outlet works including all <br /> control structures, installation of a toe drain, raising the existing saddle dam, and construction of a <br /> spillway to pass the 50% Probable Maximum Precipitation flood. The need for the improvements <br /> is a result of the State Engineer's Office dam safety requirements. Smith Geotechnical, Inc. of Fort <br /> Collins was retained by Woods Lake Mutual Water& Irrigation Company in 1998 to complete the <br /> • <br /> construction design plans and specifications. Barker Construction Company of Fort Collins <br /> commenced construction in September of 1999 and is currently 90% complete. The Contractor <br /> has demobilized for the winter and is scheduled to return in the April 2000 to complete the saddle <br /> dam, seeding, and fencing. <br />
