SPDSS is a collaborative effort between the Water Supply Protection section, the DWR, USGS and other
stakeholders. The first two years of development consist of the following tasks:
•
1. Data gathering for surface and ground water components
2. Well drilling within the Denver Basin bedrock and alluvial aquifers
3. Collection of historic and current water level data
4. Acquisition of satellite imagery of both North and South Platte drainage basins
5. Determination of irrigated and non-irrigated lands within the basins
With this new appropriation, the completion of the data collection phase will occur, including additional well
drilling and completion of the GIS mapping and remote sensing tasks.
SPDSS Goal
The CDSS goal is to help water users make informed decisions regarding major water issues and policy
positions. The SPDSS as well as the two existing DSS's provide State of Colorado agencies, water users and
managers a better means for organizing, accessing and evaluating a wide range of information and alternative
strategies for managing their water resources to achieve the CDSS overall goal.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Board request the General assembly authorize $2,000,000 from the Construction
Fund to be appropriated to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for year 3 work tasks associated with the
South Platte Decision Support System. •
111
Flood Protection•Water Project Planning and Financing•Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection•Conservation Planning
