DEERE & AULT
• N` U1'1"AN r S 1 h!C! .
August 23, 2007
Ms. Sasha Charney
Boulder County Parks & Open Space
5201 St.Vrain Road
Longmont, CO 80503
Re: Cost Estimate for Proposed Rubicon Gates Installations on St. Vrain Ditch
Headgates
Dear Ms. Charney:
I have been asked to provide information to the St. Vrain Corridor Committee regarding the cost
of installing two Rubicon gates on ditches that divert from St. Vrain Creek. The purpose of the
gates is to be able to control and measure flows past the diversion dams for the benefit of the St.
Vrain Creek fishery. Rubicon gates are unique in their capacity to perform both control and
measurement duties. This cost estimate is based in part on information provided by Rubicon and
in part on our experience with ditch diversion structures. It is my understanding that others will
provide cost estimates for bringing power to the gates and for installing SCADA capability.
• Per Rubicon the cost of each gate is $20,044. They will install the gates and estimate bein g able
to install both gates in one day at a cost of$1,800. Rubicon will also provide training at a cost of
$600 per gate. The total cost for the gates installed and with training is estimated to be$43,088.
Some work will be necessary at each structure to prepare them to receive the Rubicon gate
frames. The work will generally consist of concrete chipping, a small amount of new concrete,
and grouting the frames in place. I believe that the total work for both installations will not
exceed$1 0,000 in labor and materials. I propose to be present during gate installation for a total
of 6 hours during the day representing a cost of$870. With gates, installation and training, and
construction observation, I.estimate the total cost for the project to be$53,958. I recommend a
15 percent contingency to allow for possible price increases in the gates and for unforeseen
additional work required to prepare the structures. Therefore, I estimate the total budget amount
required to be$62,050.
Sincerely,
DEERE&AULT CONSULT ► S, INC.
W !/f ✓
Mark A.
