ICITY OF MONTE VISTA, COLORADO <br /> MANAGEMENT'S DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS <br /> 1 December 31, 2011 <br /> ICapital Assets <br /> The City's capital assets for its governmental and business-type activities as of December 31, 2011 total <br /> I $10,745,206 (net of accumulated depreciation). Capital assets include land, construction in progress,water rights, <br /> buildings, improvements, water and sewer treatment plants, transmission and distribution, equipment, and <br /> vehicles. The total increase in the City's investment in capital for the current fiscal year for the governmental <br /> activities was a $782,124 and a$76,715 decrease for business-type activities. <br /> IMajor capital asset events during 2011 include the following: <br /> I • Through CDBG funding a building was acquired for eventual use as a medical clinic. The City of Monte <br /> Vista, in collaboration with Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc., renovated the building into a new clinic <br /> that will provide primary health services to all residents. The project commenced in 2009 with the <br /> I purchase of the building at a cost of$340,265. Renovations costs for 2011 total $613,850. The project <br /> was completed in November 2011. The project was partly funded by a Community Development Block <br /> Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $1,000,000 and Valley-Wide Health Systems provided $980,769 in <br /> Ipartner funds. <br /> • The police department acquired an armored personnel carrier from the Department of Defense with a <br /> Ivalue of$380,000. <br /> • Lease purchase of a new street sweeper at a cost of$235,475. <br /> I • Sprinkler system installation at Chapman Park at a cost of$43,580. <br /> fTable 3 provides a summary of the City's capital assets (net of accumulated depreciation).
