SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND PHYSICAL IMPACTS
The recreational aspects of the entire Conejos River system are of significant value to residents
and to the tourism and hospitality economy of this region. Fishing and waterfowl hunting are
popular along the Conejos and in the area
onst uct on wl ill be lim t dhn spcopeCw Ililtake place
negative social or environmental impacts. C
within a few weeks, and will take place when waterfowl hunting is out of season.
During a short period of time there will be some disturbance of the river in the immediate
vicinity of the construction, but this will happen only briefly, with impacts being minor in
nature. This temporary impact will have far less negative effect than the current seasonal
practice of piling debris to divert water.
The economic impact will be highly positive: This project assists thCof pa gated the
h m District
to more efficiently provide irrigation water to over 3,000 acres
potentially saving$3/hour in pumping costs.
Trout Unlimited has agreed to partner with all three diversion projects and is providing
4% technical assistance to incorporate fish ladders and fish screens where appropriate.
PERMITTING
The Company and the Engineer believe no Environmental Assessment (EA) or Environmental
Impact Statement (EIS) will be required. All work is associated with agricultural projects and all
work is confined to the existing ditch.
INSTITUTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
No institutional considerations exist, other than the proposed loan from the CWCB.
(appendices follow)
199 Prepared by the Conejos Water Conservancy District, P.O.
