Feasibility of Dredging of Sylvan Dale Ranch Irrigation Ponds <br /> Sylvan Dale Ranch, LLLP <br /> November 28, 2013 <br /> Sylvan Dale Ranch owns two adjoining spring-fed ponds next to Big Thompson River,just <br /> downstream from Riverview Campground at 2444 River Rim Rd Loveland, CO 80537. (see <br /> attached Map). The ponds drain into the river just above the George Rist Ditch diversion. <br /> The address of the ponds is 7000 US Hwy 34, Loveland, CO 80537. <br /> These ponds are fed by springs and drain into the river. We pump water out of the ponds to <br /> irrigate 160 acres of alfalfa-hay south of the ponds , between 142 and 190 acre-feet per <br /> season. In accordance with the River Commissioner's instructions, as we pump, water is <br /> simultaneously replaced into the river from our CBT allotment of 259 shares at the flume <br /> from the Hansen Feeder Canal just above the Dam Store, two miles upstream from the ponds. <br /> The ponds were silted in during the flood. The purpose of the project is to excavate the <br /> ponds and restore them to their former use. The pump in the ponds is undamaged. The total <br /> acreage of the 2 ponds is approximately 2.64 acres. The estimated volume of silt is between <br /> 20,000 and 25,000 cubic yards. In addition, about 800 feet of our access road was silted in or <br /> washed out, and needs to be built up with road base. There are two possibilities for <br /> disposing of the silt. One is to haul the silt off site to some location where it can be used. <br /> Another is to dump the silt into another pond on site which is not used for irrigation and <br /> which was not damaged in the flood. If this second solution is used, one headgate will need <br /> to be re-located. We will compare costs of the two removal methods and choose the less <br /> expensive one. <br /> We have received one ball-park estimate from an excavator that the pond work will cost <br /> between $78,000- $80,000.
