Protection
Involving the public in protecting the natural values of selected streams while allowing water development to continue
River Protection Workgroup
Community Involvement Framework
A Hermosa Creek Protection Workgroup will engage interested community members in a
collaborative process that will examine ways to protect important values on Hermosa Creek
while allowing water development to continue. Community members are asked to commit to
attending approximately 10 to 12 meetings over the course of a year.
The process will follow a three - phased framework:
o Phase I: Background information will be shared. The group process will be fully
discussed and agreed upon.
o Phase II: Hermosa Creek values will be discussed, including natural, social, cultural
and /or economic values, addressing any protections already in place. By the
end of Phase II, participants will have considered a range of options for
protecting important values on Hermosa Creek. No decisions will be made in this
phase.
o Phase III: The group will look to the future. Each option will be discussed in- depth.
Through consensus - building and other decision - making tools, the group will
reach conclusions and develop action plans.
A report of the group's work will be widely disseminated and action items will be
documented with partnerships emerging for implementation.
A River Protection Workgroup Steering Committee, formed in 2007, is working
together with the public to help develop this process and serve as a resource to
the Hermosa Creek Protection Workgroup.
Process Principles:
Anyone who has an interest and attends Workgroup meetings has a seat at the table
and is considered a stakeholder in the process.
Through respectful dialogue, the process aims to design future actions that meet the
interests and needs of a diversity of stakeholders and water users.
Participants will be asked to be respectful of all opinions, even if they do not agree with
them (over).
Contacts:
Southwestern Wa er Conservation District San Juah C#izens Alliance
970- 247 -1302 or :ten_i fr, nUe ne: or 970- 259 -3583 or e*a^.ner ..`rrtler ;,e .
