Provide a brief description of your organization below: <br /> The State of Colorado has had a weather modification permitting program since 1972.Authority to administrate that program <br /> has delegation from the DNR-EDO since 1987.The CWCB expanded its program from permitting and regulatory compliance <br /> in 2004 to provide non-reimbursable investments to water users that sponsor wintertime cloud seeding programs. In addition <br /> 2007 agreements through the Colorado River Seven Basin States have added additional funding and strengthened the CWCB's <br /> ability to provide funding and technical assistance to local water users. A 2008 CWCB WM Program Strategic Plan was <br /> adopted by Board Members that is a mix of grants,new equipment,and studies and evaluations. <br /> irPart B.-Description of the Project or Study <br /> 1. (Please include county, and approximate distance <br /> and direction from the nearest town): <br /> There are active wintertime cloud seeding programs in southwestern Colorado,Gunnison Basin,the <br /> Grand Mesa, and the Upper Roaring Fork Basin. Denver Water has renewed their cloud seeding permit <br /> for the central Rocky Mountains that is centered near Green Mountain and Dillon Reservoir. <br /> 4. Please provide a brief narrative description of the proposed study or demonstration project including <br /> purpose,need, and service area. (Attach scope of study, if available) <br /> The CWCB staff is focused on developing locally sponsored cloud seeding programs. The CWCB and <br /> Lower Basin funding has been used to buy high resolution snow gauges deployed at Telluride,Grand <br /> Mesa, and Purgatory Ski Area. The precipation gauges can detect subtle difference from seeded and <br /> non seeded events for evaluations.Weather stations are at the Grand mesa,Wither Park,Purgatory and <br /> Telluride that have icing sensors to guide seed no seed decision and used for evaluations of the efficacy <br /> of the programs.New high output generators are at Cedaredge,Winter Park, and Mancos Mtn. that <br /> dispense four times the rate of Silver Iodide(AgI)of typical Colorado machines. CWCB funding has <br /> helped all wintertime programs and they are in the Upper Colorado,Upper Gunnison,Lower Colorado <br /> (Grand Mesa), and Southwestern Basins(Western&Eastern San Juans and Telluride). <br /> 2 <br />
