•
•
Scope of Work
consideration will be given to physical facility requirements of other disciplines (e.g..
fisheries, transportation) as described in other study tasks.
It is expected that two alternative dam sizes will need to be presented: one which
maximizes the physical storage capacity at the site and one which optimizes the reservoir size
based upon need, economics. construction costs. and projected use. This will provide the basis
for selecting the desired dam size and type.
Sub-task 5B. Final Selected Project Type and Configuration
The completion of Sub-tasks Tasks 4D and 4E will provide the decision making
information on the basic project configuration. The definition and sizing of the individual
project features in more detail and the refined quantity takeoffs for the selected project can then
occur. The improved data base, site familiarity, better operations knowledge, and a
supplementary physical information will provide for more accurate description of construction
items and quantities and improved project cost estimates.
This Sub-task will combine the civil and geotechnical characteristics of the proposed
project. Primary issues which will be addressed include determining the portions of the
existing structure which are in a condition and location permitting their modification and reuse;
the location and sizing of the primary outlet. power outlet, service spillway, emergency
spillway and stilling basin: construction connections to the existing embankment and ancillary
facilities, and positioning new facilities in a proper vertical relationship to each other (to •
accommodate flood routing, wave run-up, migration of fishes, proper temperature and
sediment concentration of releases. etc).
Preliminary design computations and drawings of major project components will be
completed as a part of providing an improved definition of the project.
Sub-task 5C. Hydropower Potential
Using data from operations studies and final reservoir sizing and configuration. prepare
estimates of average annual hydropower production potential and preliminary opinion on
feasibility of developing hydropower facilities at the enlarged dam. The dam/reservoir
enlargement itself will be configured to permit the addition of hydroelectric facilities: however,
this evaluation will be a "stand alone" feasibility analysis.
Sub-task 5D. Meetings
Prepare for, participate in. and document discussions of necessary TSG meetings to
carry out Task 5 up to a total of 32 man-hours.
Sub-task 5E. Task Memo
Prepare a summary memorandum describing activities and findings of Task 5 for review
by the study TSG.
5
