Technical
Brief
Memorandum
Description
Detailed Description
No.
Summarizes results of the search performed to locate past studies
A
References
conducted in or near the Tamarack SWA. This search includes the USGS3
online library, USGS Denver Library, DOW files, and conversations with
Chuck Roberts SEO4 and Alan Burns (USGS
The geology near the Tamarack SWA was investigated to provide data and
B
Geology
information for the design and construction of a groundwater flow model
for the South Platte River alluvial aquifer
All available data on aquifer properties near the Tamarack SWA were
C
Hydrologic
compiled. In addition, data from three previously unreported aquifer
Parameters
performance tests were located and evaluated to determine hydraulic
conductivity andspecific yield.
D
Evapotranspiration
Describes how the evapotranspiration input was derived for the Tamarack
Recharge Model
Water Level Data
Describes the water level monitoring network used to calibrate the model.
E
and Surveying
Four surface water locations and 53 groundwater locations, for a total of 57
locations, are monitored at the Tamarack SWA .
F
Grid and Boundary
This memorandum describes the model grid and boundary conditions
Conditions
assigned to the Tamarack Recharge Model.
Well Pumping
G
and Recharge
Describes how the data files for well pumping and recharge were derived
Data
for the Tamarack Recharge Model
H
Calibration
Describes the calibration process and results for the Tamarack Recharge
Model.
During operation and calibration of the Tamarack Recharge Model, it was
noticed that the recharge operations significantly impacted the western
boundary of the Tamarack Model. Upon review, the authors decided to
Expansion and
extend the western boundary of the Tamarack Model. In addition, the time
I
Recalibration
frame of the model was expanded to include all recharge operations. The
time span included in the updated model is from February 1, 1997 to
October 31, 2002. This memorandum describes the details of the process
to extend the model to the west, expand the model time span and to
recalibrate the model.
The West Expanded Tamarack Recharge Model was used as a baseline to
analyze the return of ground water pumped as part of the Tamarack
7
River Recharge
Recharge Project to the South Platte River. The two components of the
Evaluation
river recharge analysis include 1) determining the amount and distribution
of river recharge and 2) comparing the recharge to Stream Depletion
Factors SDFs
This analysis describes the sensitivity of head calibration and river recharge
K
Sensitivity
in the Tamarack Recharge Model to changes in model parameters such as
Analysis
hydraulic conductivity, specific yield, river constant head boundary and
recharge.
3 United States Geologic Survey
4 State Engineers Office
Model Description
