Emergency Loan Application and Feasibility Study UNION DITCH COMPANY
Alternative 1 — Do Nothing: This alternative is considered unacceptable. (Add one sentence as to
why (i. e. "Failure to replace the headgate would prevent the diversion of the company's water
rights leading to the abandonment of the water rights and the ditch').
Water could not be delivered to the stockholders and other contractual delivery obligations could
not be met, including use of the ditch for bypass water around the Latham Ditch dry -up point,
delivery for Section No. 3 Ditch (Godfrey Bottom Ditch) decree water to its ditch during low
river flows, and augmentation water, resulting in the abandonment of the water rights and the
ditch, and possible legal action if contractual obligations are not met.
Alternative 2 — Rebuilding Collaboratively with Improvements:. (Add brief description as to how
the project could be rebuilt to better serve multiple users or multiple interests than the original
structure. Where possible, a stream reach approach to rebuilding the damaged system may
result in a better solution ifadditional funding assistance were.available.
No improvements to the original ditch would be made because none were needed; the ditch is
only being returned to its original condition.
Selected Alternative 3 — [Project]: Describe the selected alternative and the method of
implementation. Note: structures should allow for accurate and improved measurements and
administration of the river.
The selected alternative includes the following projects:
1 — Repair and armor the stream banks of the South Platte River in the immediate vicinity
of the Union Ditch diversion structure with riprap and dirt.
2 — Put the headgate control building back on a concrete pad.
3 — Ditch cleaning and bank restoration using a backhoe.
4 — Repair ditch breach at Hwy 394 with riprap and dirt.
5 — Repair the emergency spillway area with riprap and dirt.
6 — Repair the ditch around the bypass structure with riprap and dirt.
No structural work is being done.
Cost Estimate
The Project cost estimate, provided by Gary Alles, President of Union Ditch Company, is
$200,000.00 and is further broken down as follows:
(Note: Additional cost breakdown should be provided as an attachment.)
