Last Chance Ditch Company
Introduction
The Last Chance Ditch Company (Last Chance) is a small ditch company
delivering water to approximately three thousand (3,000) irrigated acres and a
few gravel operations. Water source for the diversion is the St. Vrain Creek.
The current headvorks consists of a vooden headgate, originally constructed
in the early 1900's, and a concrete iixed cveir dam across the river. The current
headworks have been repaired and revorked several times in the last hundred
years and the ditch company is concerned for the safety of the downstream
users. Last Chance is pursuing the replacement of the existing headworks.
Alternatives have been evaluated for replacing and upgrading the headorks as
vell as replacing the existing dam. Last Chance is requesting a Colorado Water
Conservation Board loan for $250,000 for replacing and upgrading the existing
headworks.
Study Area Description
Last Chance Ditch headvorks are located in Section 3, Township 2 North,
Range 68 West in Weld County Colorado. The headworks are north of Colorado
119 and west of Interstate 25. A topographical map of the area is included in
the Append.
Last Chance is primarily a water source for agricultural activities ranging from
alfalfa to pasture and from sugar beets to vegetables. Although there is a
portion of water shares owned by gravel companies, historically they have not
used any of their allotted ater. A HydroBase summary report is included in
the Appendix.
A map of the service area is included in Appendix C.
Previous Studies
AGPRO performed a Headorks Modernization Feasibility Study and
Preliminary Design report for Last Chance Ditch Company in 2009. In 2010,
AGPRO prepared a Headvorks Construction Speciiication report for Last
Chance Ditch Company. Information from these reports as utilized for this
Loan Feasibility Study.
! ast ance itc ompany oan easi i rty tu y age o
