Long Hollow Dam and Reservoir Phase I Summary Report
5. Meetings with CDOW pertaining to the potential LHR impacts to the lower La Plata
River fishery.
6. An LHR notice was sent to the seven landowners within or adjacent to the LHR project
area.
7. Multiple meetings and site visits with the USACE, one of which included USEPA
employees.
8. Discussions with USF&WS pertaining to T&E species and SJRIP flow recommendations.
9. A presentation of the LHR Operation Plan to the New Mexico State Engineer.
Local consultations are ongoing and have served to inform the public and agencies of the LHR
project. At this time:
• The Colorado and New Mexico irrigators in the La Plata River basin support the LHR
project because they believe that the project will provide additional irrigation supply and
on a more dependable basis.
• The State of New Mexico continues to evaluate the project's ability to meet Compact
obligations.
• Discussions with CDOW indicate that the native fishery in the lower La Plata River can
be protected without jeopardizing the LHR project.
• After reviewing LPWCD's 404 Permit application, the USBR submitted a comment letter
to the USACE stating that the LHR project should have minimal affect on the ALP MA
on the lower La Plata River. Consequently, the USBR does not anticipate that the LHR
project will preclude the MA from fulfilling the mitigation requirements for the ALP
Project.
991-077.115 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
