Gravel, Fry Sand and Gravel). Many of the other firms are
general excavators or haulers primarily, and peat excavators
secondarily (ie. D. Gerd Trucking, Nostrand Trucking).
The total number of excavators operating at any one time is
quite variable, however, because some operators, having finished
their last excavation and not yet working a new one, are
temporarily inactive and consider themselves out of the peat
business. They are Permagreen Products of Arvada, and
Hyponex, Inc. of Fountain. Of the two Hyponex is the larger, and
ships a proportion of its material to at least eight states in
the region. Hyponex is a subsidiary of Scotts - Hyponex, a
national manufacturer of horticultural supplies based in
Marysville, Ohio.
Appendix A lists all known peat operators in the state of
Colorado. The list includes all likely but unconfirmed peat
• 21
