Summary &Conclusion
The Buckhorn Geotech report of the 2011 slope failure (Appendix A) provides a discussion of
the project, recommendations, and the analysis used to arrive at the recommended options.
This report was submitted to the Lone Cabin Ditch and Reservoir Company as well as to Jason
Ward, Dam Safety Engineer and Garrett Jackson, Dam Safety Engineer with the Colorado
Division of Water Resources. They have been involved in the Buckhorn Geotech geotechnical
evaluation and have direct knowledge of the recommendations provided in the geotechnical
report.
The option selected by the Lone Cabin Ditch and Reservoir Company presents the most
economical approach to mitigation of the slump feature by addressing only the slumped area
and rebuilding to the toe below as opposed to addressing the dam structure as a whole.
Additional geotechnical and design reporting required for the final design have yet to be
prepared. Costs for this reporting are included in the Engineer's Estimate of Total Costs (Table
1).
Permitting
Plans and specifications for construction must be approved by the State Engineer prior to
construction. It is not anticipated the scope of work will require an Army Corp of Engineers
404 permit.
Estimated Project Schedule
While some activities cannot begin before a prerequisite activity is completed, some can be
occurring simultaneously. The following list of benchmarks is provided to present a time line of
activities associated with project completion:
Benchmark Completion Date
Submittal of Application to CWCB for Project Funding April 2013
Secure CWCB Funding September 2013
Geotechnical Investigation Spring 2013
Laboratory Testing Spring 2013
Complete Design, Plans, and Specifications April 2013
Submit to SEO for Review and Approval April 2013
SEO Approval for Construction June 2013
Project Bids July 2013
Pre-construction meeting August 2013
Construction Completed October 2013
18
