way of 3,500 taps in a service area of approximately four square miles. In addition to the
services in the City limits, Lamar provides water and sewer services to approximately 100
customers in a rural community adjacent to the west side of Lamar, the Prosperity Lane
Community Water and Sewer Association. A map of the service area is shown in Figure 1 and
includes the locations of wells, existing facilities, and proposed project facilities.
PREVIOUS STUDIES
The City of Lamar Comprehensive Water Plan (Comprehensive Plan) was completed in 2007.
The Comprehensive Plan concluded that the City's currently owned surface and groundwater
rights provide adequate water rights to meet its projected growth. Other recommendations
included additional water storage to give Lamar the ability to clean and maintain the existing 6.0
million gallon (MG) and 2.0 MG water storage tanks. Tank piping modifications and relocation
of the existing chlorination building were also recommended to enable the system to meet
current disinfection regulations. Most importantly, infrastructure upgrades were recommended,
including water transmission line improvements to reduce leakage, add redundancy and provide
Lamar with properly disinfected potable water.
City of Lamar Raw Water Feasibility Study — Colorado Water Conservation Board 2
