ARKANSAS GROUNDWATER USERS ASSOCIATION
P.O.Box 11446 Pueblo,CO 81001 ph:(719)-948-2150 fax:(719)948-2167
Scott Brazil,President Keith Beattie,Vice-President John Sliman,Secretary/Treasurer
Sam Fosdick,Director Dr.Charles Durbin,Director
7/16/2013
Ms. Anna Mauss
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman Street,Room 721
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Ms. Mauss,
The Arkansas River Basin continues to suffer through an historic drought. As a well
augmentation group our organization and its members have already felt the effects.
Water supplies that were expected to be available for our Rule 14 augmentation plan this
year have produced greatly reduced amounts. At the same time the cost of water through
annual leases has doubled and in some instances tripled from what is normal. In total the
cost of water to replace our normal sources is currently$200,821. On behalf of its
members, the AGUA Board asks that the CWCB consider and approve an Agricultural
Emergency Drought Grant to help offset these costs.
Included with this letter are:
1. A detailed explanation of the grant request
2. A copy of the official drought declaration by the Federal Government
3. A copy of AGUA's annual budget and 2012 financial review
4. A line item budget showing increased expenses resulting from the drought
5. A more detailed description of AGUA and our members
I am designating our General Manager, Scott Lorenz as the primary contact person for
any questions or discussions pertaining to this request.
Sincerely,
Scott Brazil
Board President
Arkansas Groundwater Users Association
