P.O. Box 1150 Phone: 970-565-7562
60 South Cactus Street Fax: 970 -565 -0870
Cortez CO 81321 Email: jhnprtr @fone.net
October 9, 2000
Dan McAuliffe, Acting Director
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman Street, Room 721
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Transmittal of WETPACK Feasibility Study from Dolores Water Conservancy District
Dear Mr. McAuliffe:
The Dolores - Water Conservancy District hereby transmits a Feasibility Study regarding the
construction of the first phase of the Water for Everyone Tomorrow Package ( WETPACK)
initiative. WETPACK will develop additional water supplies and delivery facilities to expand
the benefits of the Dolores Project. As part of WETPACK, the District has considered providing
additional water for irrigation and the fishery below McPhee, plus delivering Dolores Project
municipal and industrial water to areas that are not presently served. The District has been
evaluating WETPACK for the past five years. The feasibility study concluded that irrigation of
approximately 4,000 acres of presently dry farmed land is immediately justified with the other
WETPACK purposes to be served in future phases of WETPACK.
The District is now ready to actively pursue implementation of the first phase of WETPACK.
Please contact John Porter, the District manager, if you have questions or comments.
Sincerely,
onald W. Schwindt
Board President
