e. 480 Volt Motor Control Centers
Two motor control centers designated MCA and MCB are rated 480 volt, 3- phase.
The motor control centers provide the motor starters and controls for all motor -
operated butterfly valves and the main unit cooling water pumps. Feeder breakers
provide power for 480 volt power receptacles in the main pump bay.
Auxiliary Control Panel
The auxiliary control panel is designated CCA and is located at the south end of the
motor control gallery. The control panel provides electrical interlocks for operation
of the main pumping units. The control panel also provides status and alarm
indicating lights for the pumping plant auxiliary systems. Electrical controls
associated with filling and draining are also provided at CCA and require input from
the following motor - operated fill and drain valves:
• MPA -Unit 1 City of Durango isolation discharge valve
• MPB -Unit 2 City of Durango isolation discharge valve
• MPC - Ridges Basin discharge manifold isolation discharge valve
• MPD -City of Durango discharge manifold isolation discharge valve
• MPE -Unit 1 isolation filling valve
• MPF -Unit 2 isolation filling valve
• MPG -Drain line discharge valve
• M1F -Unit 1 guard valve
• M2F -Unit 2 guard valve
A programmable logic controller (PLC) and a graphic operator terminal are used to
implement the control logic and to provide a single point of operation for the
pumping plant motor - operated fill and drain valves.
