1. 4'x 6' Guard Gate
One 4' x 6' guard gate is installed in the outlet works gate chamber. The gate is used as an
emergency /guard gate. The hydraulic power unit (HPU), located in the control house, is
used to control the gate from the auxiliary control panel (ACP) or from the gate chamber.
The guard gate consists of steel bodies that are embedded in concrete, a gate leaf, bonnet
cover, and oil- operated hydraulic hoist. The hydraulic hoist has a 16" diameter bore and a
6' -1" stroke. The guard gate is positioned either in the fully open or fully closed position.
The controls for the gate consist of a hydraulic power unit and connecting piping. The
hydraulic power unit consists of an oil reservoir, two motor -pump units, relief valve,
pressure switches, pressure gauge, two- and four -way valves, flow - control valve, check
valves, suction and pressure filters, accumulators, and other related equipment.
There is some water leakage between the bottom gate seat and concrete. This was
quantified and documented in the 2012 Comprehensive Review (CR). As a part of the Safety
of Dams Program, Reclamation will measure seepage flows during all future CR exams to
ensure that the rate remains within acceptable limits.

2. 66" Diameter Discharge Pipe
The 66" diameter steel pipe is located within the concrete lined outlet works tunnel. The
pipe terminates in the gate /valve room with a trifurcation into a 66" diameter steel pipe
controlled by a 60" jet flow gate; a 48" diameter steel pipe with a 48" butterfly valve, and
controlled by a 48" inline sleeve valve; and a 36" butterfly valve and blind flange.
During the 2012 CR, areas of corrosion were noted in the first pipe section downstream of
the guard gate. An area of pipe coating was found to be fractured above a dent in the
second discharge pipe section.
