Contents
This method allowed for the slowest pressurization available for the physoclistous fish which
have a closed air bladder that changes its air content through gas diffusion in the blood system.
Once the discharge pipe became pressurized through the 4 in butterfly valve, the 48 in butterfly
valve was then fully opened. At this point, the test sample was under the full pressure of the
reservoir's water column. The sleeve valve was then opened to the 10 percent open position and
the test sample flushed through its 0.63 in holes.
Trials
For each reservoir elevation tested, test fish were initially plaCOd into the larger 210 gal blue
holding tanks according to size and species and were all
9wed to acclimate for 3 or more days to
existing water quality. For each sleeve valve passage trial; fish i1+@re hand netted out of the 210
gal tanks using soft mesh nets and were counted and ttleasured for tatallength and width/height.
However, only a sub - sample of the smaller fish, *4s measured but all I' fish appearing to be
near the diameter threshold of the sleeve valve holes were measured. The test fish were then
released into one of the 55 gal holding tanks. The
number of species, size, date, and trial number. Water used for the buckets were filled by dipping
them into theirr Mspective holding tanks and then turning on the hand aerators before adding the
sample. Water " cAhe rainbow ttrut embryos were filled from one of the aquaculture spigots
while also having an.aerator oPerating before adding the sample. However, water temperature
for the aquaculture facility consistently cool ranging between 45 — 55 degrees Fahrenheit
with little to no diel fluctuation. Dissolved oxygen levels were consistently greater than 95
percent. The test samples were then hand carried inside of the Ridges Basin Dam control house
and inserted into the discharge pipe as described earlier. The sleeve valve was then opened to
the 10 percent open position and held there for 5 minutes of elapsed time.
Page 21
