As the attached budget materials show, LAWMA operates on a tight annual budget, which
reflects LAWMA's members' ability to pay for water. The financial effects of the drought
already are being felt in the Lower Arkansas Valley, and those effects are compounded by the
current economic environment.
If approved, this grant request will allow LAWMA to buffer the increase in our members' costs
for irrigation water at a time when they already are struggling economically, by using 100% of
the grant of $326,800 to reimburse, pro -rata, those LAWMA members who leased the
emergency replacement water that LAWMA acquired from the Pueblo Board of Water Works.
