ORDWAY CATTLE FEEDERS, LLC
19424 Hwy, 96
Ordway, Colorado 81063
(719) 267 -3551
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman St. Room 721
Denver, CO 80203
Monday, January 21, 2013
CWCB members
This letter is in regards to the Crowley County/ Ordway Cattle Feeders, LLC. Waterline project.
This project is very beneficial to Crowley, County, and the State of Colorado. I think this project lines up
with the mission statement of the CWCB . This project conserves water, protects and provides better
management of Colorado's water. This project will put fire Hydrants in a County that is the poorest in
the state of Colorado, and the reason the county is the poorest in the state is that the water was sold off
of the land in the 1970's, making very unproductive land that has dry vegetation that is very susceptible
to fire. Where these fire hydrants will be placed, there aren't any fire hydrants for miles.
This project will conserve water, and allow other users in the state to have more water available
for their use. Water is a crucial resotu, rce here in Colorado, and any water we can save is very important.
This project looks to save roughly 4W acre ft. from", and transport loss, and another 14 acre ft. a
year of potable water. The non - potable water will no longer be stored in Lake Henry where shrink is
58 %. Crowley County, and Ordway Cattle Feeders, LLC have a long standing relationship and will also
provide wells that can be tested by the state for various test s on quality.
Ordway Cattle Feeders, LLC is a 65,000 head feedyard located in Southeast, Colorado. Ordway
Cattle Feeders,!;Cnaybe,,located in Southeast Colorado, but purchases, and sales Commodities, and Cattle
from all over the State of Colorado. Ordway Cattle Feeders annually purchases close to $77 million
worth of Commodities from allover the state, and has annual sales of over $138 million. Qrdway Cattle 2 066
Feeders. LLC was established in 1972, and currently employees over 85 people with an annual payroll of Q 59,
$3.7 million,. Without this Waterline project, Ordway Cattle Feeders, Will no longer be able to operate.
k, Taking this company out of operation in the poorest County in the State will have several ill effects. The
reason the waterline is needed is that, the feedyard currently gets its water from its Colorado Canal
Shares, and purchased spot water that is placed into Lake Henry, a reservoir located 2 miles north of the
Feedyard. Most of the water in Lake Henry is owned by Colorado Springs Utilities, and The city of
Aurora. CSU and Aurora were able to purchase this water from the Crowley County Farmers in the
1970's. The reason these cities purchased the water was to provide water for their people that live in,
and among the cities. These cities will continue to store their water higher up, if possible, henceforth
leaving Ordway Cattle Feeders unable to retrieve their water from Lake Henry.
JOE SPITZ 0 9122 COUNTY ROAD HH a LAMAR, CO 81052 PHONE 719 - 336 -5466
