The final Historical Data Table utilized for the Lower
South Platte River point flow calculations is named histgaug.dbf. This table contains the official
river gauging station flow values for the Lower South Platte River. The gauge values, which are
collected and computed by the Colorado Division of Water Resources and the United States
Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.), represent day- averaged values. This is in contrast to the gauging
values documented on the River Commissioner's Daily Worksheets which are instantaneous
readings. A sample of the U.S.G.S. stream gauging records can be found in Appendix III.
Like both comm_dly.dbf and histdiv.dbf, REPORTDATE also exists in histgaug.dbf. In all three of
the Historical Data Tables, REPORTDATE is the first field within each record and can be
considered a record header that defines the date for which all of the succeeding fields (within the
same record) correspond.
Table 5 Field names and structural format contained within histgaug.dbf.
Field
#
histgaug.dbf
Field Name
Field
Type
Field
Width
Decimal
Precision
1
REPORTDATE
D
8
N/A
2
PUDRGRLGGG
N
10
1
3
KERSGAUGGG
N
10
1
4
WELDGAUGGG
N
10
1
5
COOPR_GGG
N
10
1
6
BALZC GGG
N
10
1
7
JULSGAUGGG
N
10
1
Two fields within histgaug.dbf, PUDGRLGGG and COOPR_GGG, require supplemental
explanation. PUDGRLGGG denotes the gauging flow for the Cache la Poudre River at a point
near Greeley, Colorado (approximately 2.5 river miles above the confluence of the Cache la
Poudre River and South Platte River). For a point flow analysis of the Lower South Platte River
I that begins near Kersey (located down river from Greeley), flow values associated with the Cache
La Poudre River are not used. The basis, therefore, of including the Cache la Poudre gauging
values within histgaug.dbf is to approximate the proportion of water flowing past the Kersey
' gauging station that originates from the Cache la Poudre River drainage basin.
